What is the role for demand reduction in a sustainable energy transition?

Jump to section

Webinar: Tuesday 10 September 2024, 11:00-12:00 BST

The global energy system is undergoing a rapid transition to help meet climate change targets. Most action to date has focused on decarbonising energy supply and yet tackling energy demand can bring multiple environmental, economic and social benefits.

This seminar will highlight the various actions that businesses and sectors can take to reduce and shape energy demand.  It will discuss whether we need to go beyond traditional energy efficiency improvements and what benefits this could deliver, and we will hear about the importance of demand flexibility in delivering the energy transition.

The seminar will feature Rob Turner of PwC discussing the findings of their report on how businesses can transform energy demand, which was presented at Davos in January. It will also include Prof. John Barrett from the University of Leeds talking about his work on the potential for reducing energy demand in the UK. Proceedings will be chaired by Izzy Woolgar from the Centre for Net Zero, which works on energy demand response and flexibility.
