Introduction
Energy Seminar 2 : Problems, Conflicts and Blunders. What Economics Can Tell Us, or Lessons for Economists?
Drawing on many of the presentations and discussions in the energy seminars over the last few years, the aim of this seminar will be to discuss some of the more important interactions between policy, regulation and markets, with a number of examples or case studies from the arena of energy and climate policy. The emphasis will be less on technical aspects than on political economy, and the intention will be to challenge a number of conventional assumptions about policy making for a low carbon future.
John Rhys is a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Environmental Change Institute of Oxford University. He has chaired this series of seminars over several years, and was formerly a Chief economist at the Electricity Council and a Managing Director at NERA Economic Consulting.
