The biennial Research Conference run by the British Institute for Energy Economics (BIEE) is the place where cutting edge research meets policymaking and real-world experience. It is a vital forum for debate on this fundamental aspect of our life and industry, at a time when energy prices, resilience and futures are undergoing unprecedented change and facing new shocks.
Now the BIEE would like to appoint a voluntary independent chair for the organising committee for our next conference, to be held in Oxford in September 2023.
The BIEE is a unique cross-fertilising organisation that brings together the energy research, policy and industrial communities to investigate our current and future energy system. The multi-stream two-day Research Conference brings together key energy themes which next year are likely to include: resilience of supply and of the supply chain; decarbonising heat; the opportunity for active consumers and the threat for the vulnerable; adding and managing new energy resources; fairness in the Net Zero agenda; energy efficiency; and the just transition.
This high-profile role will allow you to use your contacts and make new ones across the UK’s energy community. As conference committee chair you will develop the conference themes with the BIEE’s council and with expert conference committee members. With the expert committee you will oversee the selection of submitted papers, giving an insider’s view of current academic research, and you will shape plenary sessions to address current issues. You will help source support from conference sponsors.
You will be supported by a committee of experts in the subject matter and an administrator.
We expect to announce a call for papers in late 2022 and shape the programme in the second quarter of 2023.
Please send career details and a letter explaining why you would be the ideal chair for our committee to admin@biee.org
Applications close on 15 July and we aim to appoint by mid-August.
